South View Open House
It wasn't the children playing. They were running the town! It was the adults that were having most of the fun. Under a general theme of recycling, South View Primary students set to work in creating a town that was filled with their ideas and innovations.
To promote further awareness and involvement, they put twists to games such as bowling by using plastic bottles and aluminum cans that were headed to the recycling bins as pins. They also had life size board games, complete with a box of universities and of course a jail. Some showcased their inventions, from a 3 in 1 bottle to a portable kitchen.
The event would not have been possible without the help of mentors from Nanyang Girls High School and The Chinese High School who assisted the wee ones in putting up their enormous boards as well as creating their prototypes for the event.
"At first I did not like my mentors because I felt they were doing too much and we wanted to do things ourselves. But after we finished, I realised that without them, we would not have been able to do as good a job. They helped us to do things we thought were impossible. I really like my mentors now."
