The Chinese High School & St. Margaret Secondary School
The 3 R's (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) mantra has never meant much to these students until they saw how Australian volunteers cared for their environment. Instead of waiting for the government to initiate programmes, they volunteered to learn about their environment in order to take care of it.
From checking the variety of water insects present in the river for health monitoring to plucking seeds off of non-native plants and identifying the many species (from insects to large mammals) that thrive in the bushland, the volunteers made an impact that not even a million dollar campaign could have created.
"Australia is very big and has a lot of resources. By comparison, Singapore is very small with very little resources. Yet the Australians care more for their environment than we do."
