20 Nov 03, 2003 Thursday Nine Year Olds Turn EntrepreneursShi Xun, Wen Qiang, Dylan and Vijayalakshmi, Primary 3 pupils of Rosyth School have turned entrepreneurs in order to help less fortunate children.
After taking Kids Incorporated with The Little Entrepreneur Pte Ltd (TLE), the four
nine-year-olds created a game, devised a workable business plan and pitched their ideas to venture capitalists. After several rounds, they found a believer in City Developments Limited (CDL) who saw a tremendous opportunity not only to encourage entrepreneurship, but also to help needy children.
In a bold statement, the children mentioned that they hope to raise at least $3,500 from its sales for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and the school's fund for needy pupils. The Poster Game is now being sold at $5 a box although early birds can get it for $4.50. The children are also doing a promotion for their fellow Rosyth classmates. Since its launch last Thursday, about 200 have been snapped up. The game is simple and yet involves strategic thinking and partnering. Players roll a dice and move counters on the board to collect cards belonging to four different categories of volunteering. Along the way you can be robbed, forced to recycle or swap cards with others. The winner is the player who first collects five cards that belong to a particular category. When asked why people should buy the Poster Game when there are other games in the market, Marketing Manager Dylan Teh piped, "You help needy children and it's fun!". And that is definitely reason enough.
